Loire Valley wines

The wines of the Loire Valley represent the third largest AOC (appellation d’origine contrôlée) region in France. It’s the largest white wine region in France, and the second largest sparkling wine region in the country after CHampagne. The great length of the river and the diversity of soils and climates make the Loire region the only one in France to produce excellent wines in many different categories: red, white or rosé, still and sparkling, dry or sweet. The Loire Valley includes the wines Muscadet near the coastal city of Nantes, all the way to Sancerre in central France, passing along the Anjou, Saumur, Bourgueil, Chinon and Vouvray, in a total of 87 appellations. Although most wines produced are white from Chenin blanc, Sauvignon blanc and Melon de bourgogne, we also find red wines from Cabernet franc generally from around Chinon and Bourgueil. Chenin blanc is the most used grape for white wines in COteaux du Layon, Montlouis-sur-Loire, Savennières and Vouvray. They are known for their high acidity while young, giving them a great aging potential. The villages of Sancerre and Pouilly-sur-Loire are known for their crunchy and herbaceous Sauvignon blanc wines. Some producers in the region experiment with oak aging to give them a little roundness and sweetness. However, the great majority will avoid it to maintain maximum fruitiness. The villages of Bourgueil, Chinon and Saumur are known for their Cabernet franc wines, light and fruity for Saumur, rich and velvety for Chinon. The Muscadet des Pays-de-la-Loire are made from Melon de Bourgogne, with citrusy and mineral notes.

Very Nice

Impeccable hosting and welcoming ! Interesting visit and tpo of the notch tasting ! We recommand the detour. It was a real present...ideas for celebrations and holidays!

What a happiness !

To do absolutely, at least to know a rather rare job. The visit was nice, but the tasting was totally extraordinaire. Advice, anecdotes, good time with good wine. The Loire Wines are not the most known, and that is a shame ! The Caves Duhard should make you change your mind. Go there if only just for an hour of pure pleasure shared with passionate people !

It changes of the habitual visits. Thanks to them, I learned to taste the wine like a pro. Thank you. Very good products to taste with very pleasant persons.

Really nice cave, really good hospitality, tasting with anecdotes on wines and its heritage!!! Really good visit.

Informed advice and nice choice of flasks

A visit of the caves followed by a wine tasting with informed advice and a little bit of cheese to munch on between each glasses. Explanations of tasting and on the aging of the wines. Nice choice of old bottles, perfect to offer oneself wines of a particular year. Reasonable rates.
